In Austin, Texas, two of the most picturesque locations for engagement sessions are the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and Mount Bonnell. I’ve been lucky to get to shoot some weddings at The Wildflower Center, and they are always so gorgeous! We had an enchanting engagement session that started with the colorful blossoms of the Wildflower Center. Afterwards, we finished with a breathtaking sunset view at Mount Bonnell.

Austin Wildflower Center Engagement Session

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is a true gem for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike. Nestled in the heart of Austin, this botanical garden is dedicated to the conservation and celebration of native plants. I love Austin in the Spring, and this session felt so quintessentially that!
I adore the fields of bluebonnets, Indian paintbrushes, and other native Texas wildflowers… and so does my camera. The vibrant colors of the flowers and the lush greenery added a touch of whimsy and romance to the photos. I even embraced some direct sunlight photos, and loved the results.

Transitioning over to Mount Bonnell

As the day progressed, we headed over to Mount Bonnell. Known for its panoramic views of the Austin skyline and the Colorado River, Mount Bonnell is a popular spot for watching the sunset. I love both of these locations for engagement sessions, so getting to do them both in one session was a treat! We stopped periodically to pose on the MANY steps on the way up. Unfortunately, I was reminded that I need to hit the gym more.

One of the standout features of Mount Bonnell is its unparalleled view of the Austin skyline. I love the juxtaposition of the natural beauty of Mount Bonnell with the urban skyline. When shooting skylines, I love to do shots of the couple out of focus in the foreground like this.

Sunset at Mount Bonnell

Because of it’s high elevation, Mount Bonnell is renowned for its spectacular sunsets, and this evening was no exception. I was so inspired by this beautiful session. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the sky was painted in shades of orange, pink, and purple, creating a mesmerizing backdrop for the couple’s photos. I usually start engagement sessions a little later in the day, but I’m so glad we started when we did! I love the bright colors we were able to capture.
